Why Shopping Local Matters

Every project begins with a story. Like every good story, the narrative is built upon strong roots and a thoughtful foundation. As members of a creative community, we value supporting local at every turn. Designing is a collaborative, layered process that is built through solid relationships with the community, including artisans, makers, and vendors that breathe life into our designed spaces. While we source globally, there is something uniquely impactful about investing in the talent and craftsmanship found right in our own backyard, especially in a city as rich in creativity as Houston.

Why Shopping Local Matters

Supporting local businesses goes far beyond convenience. It strengthens the creative economy, sustains craftsmanship, and fosters authentic, one-of-a-kind design. When you choose local, you are often choosing pieces that carry a story and are built with intention.

In design, that intention is everything.

Local sourcing also allows for a level of customization and collaboration that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. Whether it’s refining finishes, adjusting scale, or dreaming up something entirely new, working with nearby artisans creates a more personal, connected process which results in a more layered and soulful home.

Recent Ways We Supported Local

Throughout our recent Sweet Escape project, we intentionally incorporated Houston-based artisans and partnered with brands that value craftsmanship at every level. Here are a few highlights that helped shape the home:

Custom Woodwork with Character

We collaborated with Lucky Dog Designs, a Houston-based studio, to create a custom console table and coffee table. These pieces ground the space with warmth and authenticity, and were designed specifically for the home and built with a level of care you can feel the moment you walk in.

Bringing Life Indoors

Nothing transforms a space quite like greenery. By sourcing live trees from Tall Plants in Houston, we were able to introduce organic scale and softness throughout the interiors. These lush elements added a touch of life into the architecture through both their aesthetic amplification and their natural air purification.

Statement Stone with Local Expertise

For the primary bedroom fireplace, we worked with Earthstone Colors to source a striking petrified slab. The natural texture and movement create a focal point that feels both timeless and unexpected, truly becoming an art piece in its own right.

Tailored Upholstery and Custom Details

Houston craftsmanship also extended to specialized services like Total Leather Care, who custom distressed a green leather sofa in the cellar. This level of finishing detail adds depth and individuality that simply can’t be achieved with off-the-shelf pieces.

Built-In Comfort and Function

In the cellar, we partnered with Creative Style, a Houston-based company, to design a custom banquette. It’s a perfect example of how local collaboration allows us to maximize both function and aesthetic while tailoring precisely to how the space is used.

Layering Local with Global

While these local partnerships were integral, they were thoughtfully layered alongside pieces from brands we trust for their quality and design integrity—upholstery from Verellen, lighting from Visual Comfort, and statement furnishings from Theodore Alexander and Four Hands, among many others.

Great design lives in the balance between the bespoke and the curated. By combining locally crafted elements with globally sourced pieces, we create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. We strive for our homes to evolve over time and reflect the people who live in them.

Designing with Intention

Supporting local can feel trendy, but to us it is about valuing craftsmanship, nurturing relationships, and designing spaces that feel deeply personal. Houston continues to inspire us with its depth of talent and creative energy, and our designs are a reflection of that spirit.
